(thanks to Sandra's suggestion to try blades) :-) The only downside, was the hotel decor. It's a bit worn and needs a lick of paint. You get some of the controls on the ground and in the air, and after take off, a rapid ascent, and a fly-by of the runway, you can take the controls. I flew us round York controlling our speed and elevation. Fantastic. Not to be missed. Or you could just sit back and enjoy the view and snap some photos. Big thanks to Phil and Kati on the ground.”

Absolutely first-class adrenaline pumping action. I would stress the fact that a reasonable to good level of fitness is required for this event, and that it is not simply a 'walk in the park'. “Enjoyed the whole session, the time just flew by. As there was only a small group, three of us, I think we were lucky we could get the attention we needed. Definitely thinking about booking lessons in the New Year, although I think I may be a slow learner! The instructor (Sats) was very friendly and helpful and made things easy to understand for the absolute beginner! “We had a fantastic weekend on the narrow boat. I have been trying to find life's brake pedal for ages & this is the only real way (at 4 mph) to slow life down to approx the speed of an express tortoise!! Everybody bonded together to make drinks & sandwiches & then changed their apron for a lock key & jumped off the boat to operate the lock's & help with the driving. Even a little bit of rain on the last day couldn't dampen anybody's spirits. Can't wait for next spring & another chance to slow my life down for a few days.”

This is a truly fantastic day out in spectacular surroundings. Trevor is clearly an expert in his field and an entertaining instructor. “Liked the format. The randomness of the questions, as well as having to choose our 'bonus' questions blind made for a good evening out. It also made the whole quiz a little fairer, as it tested knowledge, not how lucky you are in a certain round. The fact we won probably helped!!”

Ladybower Bike Amble 2/8/08

“Loved biking up the hills (yes, really) and socialising as most people stayed behind at the end. You can go at your own pace -there are regular meeting up points and people are happy to wait if they have gone on ahead”

“My first biking day, I thoroughly enjoyed it, although it was tough in parts, especially in the afternoon, legs not used to pedalling for 15 miles! I took my own bike which is quite old and whereas it is ideal for riding up and down the Trans Pennine Trail which IS flat, it was not really suitable for covering this kind of distance and terrain. I would recommend hiring a bike if this is something new for people. I will next time unless I buy myself a new one!”

“This was an excellent day. Adrian made sure everyone was ok. Unfortunately, he could do nothing to stop me receiving 22 midge bites. Advice for members - if you are prone to being bitten, you are close to water so use mosquito repellent or similar if you don't want to end up looking like a Dalmation as I did! Excellent day overall.”

It was a fascinating insight into other cultures literally living next door to us.”

Assault Course 3/6/07

“This was a FANTASTIC event, great fun and it encourage excellent team work. Most of the participants were from Birmingham but the ice was quickly broken. Steve anticipated individual needs very well and made sure that everyone re-grouped along the way with suitable stops.”

Harrogate Turkish Baths 19/5/07

“The Harrogate Turkish Baths are evocative of a bygone era, everyone should visit at least once in a lifetime. The mosaics and painted plaster work make them a visual feast and that's in addition to the deep feeling of relaxation and wellbeing engendered by a Turkish Baths session, which is conducive to some good socialising; I don't think I've talked to so many fellow Spicers at an event before.”

“This was a lovely event, the Turkish Baths are beautiful, we spent a lovely 3 hours in the baths and had time for dinner together afterwards. Great company in lovely surroundings with a nice mixed group of people. (The Jazz bar in Harrogate was a great end to the evening (must make sure I'm not driving next time))”

“FANTASTIC DAY-even the torrential rain didn’t spoil it! The instructor was great, very professional and instilled us with confidence and trust. It was a great way to meet people and bond, we did 3 abseils, each one getting harder, the 3rd one was really difficult, but what a sense of achievement when we completed it! Highly recommended event.”

Poker evening 9/5/07

I went to the Poker Evening totally clueless, I ended up on the ‘Losers’ Table having lost all my chips and in debt to the banker but had great fun. Style Workshop 29/4/07

“This workshop was excellent. Cliff was so pleasant amusing and bluntly honest, while never being insulting. Trinny and Susannah could learn a lot from him. I have already put a jacket on the rail, because I could hear him saying “not for you love” in head. The idea of having the little note book is really good, I wish I had made more notes, it is impossible to remember all the advice he gave.”

Fun Fondue Evening 28/4/07

“An excellent format for a Spice Event, very relaxed, leisurely meal, good for chatting to other members. Am recommending the venue to friends and would love to go again.”

“A really good night - the fondue was brilliant and the chocolate fondue - absolutely deeeelicious! yum, yum. The service was good and friendly and the food just kept on coming”

“Very enjoyable way of passing the time; fondues, like mezes and other say..typically Greek nights allow plenty of time for conversation and social activities and could easily be paired with other activities. I would look forward to the next chance to attend a fondue like this one and consider that linking events such as quiz night, games nights etc with fondues and/or buffets might run quite well.”

We did not feel under pressure to try anything that we didn't want to do-but with encouragemnt from the rest of the group we all had at least one go at each of the tasks. The lunch stop and pub stop after made it sociable too.I did struggle with some of the uphills though!”

“I would definitely recommend this event, and this restaurant for future events as the food and service was fantastic.”

Ramble: Bullcliffe Woods 12/11/06

“Very enjoyable, sociable walk through lovely scenery. It is nice to have walks at a variety of locations, as some can involve very long drives which does put me off booking. Would also like to see some more longer walks offered as although this was enjoyable, an 8 mile walk meant that we finished at 2:30 which is a very short day.”

Scarborough Seaside Walking Weekend 10/11/06

“I really enjoyed this event and will book more of Roys weekends.”

“Worth paying for taxi (£5 between 4) to go into Scarborough for the evening. Excellent live 60s band on in Newcastle Packet pub, and drinks very reasonable (they even had karaoke on in the afternoon. Another absolute must is a visit to the chocolate fountain bar on the sea front.”

“Walk was just right for me and I was able to join in with everyone else. Long time since I did that. Roy made it possible for eveyone to feel welcome and included. Linda and Roy have my vote!”

Tutored Wine Tasting 24/10/06

“Very informative and enjoyable - will go back to select some wines for Christmas. We all went away with some "leftovers" from the wine tasting which made it good value. If we hadn't might have seemed a bit expensive as it is a marketing exercise for Majestic. However, we did get to taste some excellent wines.”

Orienteering/Navigation for Beginners 21/10/06

“It was a brilliant day, just don’t rely on me to find the way home with a compass!”

Jonny Boston Quartet 21/10/06

Great value with the meal included.”

“The Foyer is a fantastic venue, a real sophisticated oasis in the midst of Sheffield University. No smoking, pleasant, reasonably priced bar which also serves coffee. An excellent buffet. Good choice and quite authentic, plenty of it, unhurried, included dessert and even a glass of wine +bottled water on the tables.”

Yorkshire Oct Three Peaks Walk 14/10/06

“Absolutely fantastic day, great crowd, weather was even kind to us (not too hot, not too cold, no rain) and we saw the sun rise and set.  Les was extremely encouraging when any of us "hit the wall" and we all sat in the pub afterwards and all we could say was "we did it". No-one dropped out so team spirit was great.”

MEMORABLE DAY! GREAT WALK, GREAT WEATHER, GREAT GROUP OF FELLOW WALKERS, EXPERTLY LED BY LES “

Wine Tasting 11/10/06

Even if you have done this event before, which I had, its worth doing it again because its different wines every time. Also we tasted the wines blind this time so we learnt more about the whole process.”

Tarot Card Workshop 8/10/06

“It was a really fun and informative event. Lorna was very interesting and obviously had a vast knowledge of the subject. She had us gripped throughout. She also said that she did palmistry and there was a lot of interest in doing a day course on that. Something for you to look into!”

Sheffield Lights and Spice Evening 6/10/06

“A really good evening and quite unexpected. The Ruskin did a great job….good food and excellent service”

“Food excellent value, a full meal which I was not expecting as cost was only £9

Kirkby Stephen Weekend 29/9/06

“As usual, a very good weekend. Friendly crowd of people, beautiful weather. One of my favourite places.”

“This was my first weekend away with Spice and I had a great time.  Was with a really good sociable group of people.  I thought the whole weekend was really well organised and was great how people pulled together.  Also very enjoyable walks”

“Great people, great coordination, fantastic location and reasonable price, all helped to make this the best weekend I have been on with Spice.  Thanks.”

Quad Bike Trail 23/9/06

“Went on this a couple of years ago and it's great fun, but not for the faint hearted. Good excuse to get down right dirty and wet - take wellies.”

Dinner at Meltons Too 23/9/06

“This is one of the best restaurants in York and it was a coup to arrange a meal there on a Saturday night. However, as you will already know the meal was disappointing…slow service, and the puddings were a disaster….straight out of “Hells Kitchen”. Sandra, well done for organising this sort of day and meal in York on a Saturday…the meal was one of those things….still good company and an enjoyable Spice event as usual.”

Spice Curry Club visits Dilshad 22/9/06

“This was one of the best curry nights in terms of quantity and quality of food and the service was excellent.”

Dinner Shuffle at Thai Edge 19/9/06

“Bit pricey but wonderful food and lots of it. My first dinner shuffle - worked well although ended up next to same person twice - not sure how you prevent that. I suppose we could have asked to move but got chatting again & never got round to it!”

Brockwood Hall Walking Weekend 15/9/06

“A good crowd who got on well together. Roy organised a pub meet on Friday and a meal together on Saturday. This was followed by a party on Saturday night. I could not ask for more. An excellent event overall.”

“I think you have got the event about right. I suspect that any improvements would be balanced by a downside. I would have liked slightly more plush accommodation; but probably would not want to pay more. The cost of this event was low enough not to have to think too hard about booking”

Mountain Bike Course 9/9/06

“Course content was perfect – instruction for absolute beginners but we were encouraged to do some challenging things. Ian was a great tutor.”

“Really enjoyed it had a great time, had some funny moments.”

York Maize Maze 9/9/06

“Went last year and liked it so much we went back again this year. Roll on next years'. The actors in the maize make it fun and scary and we love it.”

Proms Spectacular 3/9/06

“I thought the proms event was excellent. It is a good venue, there were extra things to the usual proms concert such as a Spitfire flypast, there were lots of freebies and the fireworks were spectacular. The conductor was as camp as Butlins, but got away with murder because of it. In terms of traffic, there were no problems at all either going in or out so I'd definitely recommend it as an event.”

“Absolutely superb, very memorable!”

Pole Dancing Class 2/9/06

“In at the deep end as my first Spice event but it was brilliant. Everyone very quickly got over their shyness and had a cracking time. Not sure I’m ready for a public performance but would definitely do a further session

“I had a fantastic time.  By the end of it we were all able to complete a whole routine- amazing!”

“The event was good fun and enjoyable, unfortunately we ran out of time to have a go at the lap dancing.  It might have been better to suggest arriving earlier to sort out paper work, so that there is the full session time available”

“The event was fun and enjoyable. The venue was Ok for the pole dancing event but was not the nicest nightclub in the world! It was good value for money but the event was late starting and overran and we did not have enough time to do the lap dancing session so it would have been good if the session could have been extended!”

August Bank Holiday in the Lakes 25/8/06

“Really good weekend. Well put together with good organisers. The accommodation was good and functional. The showers could do with a bit of an overhaul! The walks were well done and having a selection of three was perfect.”

Gliding Evening in Derbyshire 24/8/06

“Excellent event, made by the superb weather on the night.”

Wine Tasting in York 19/8/06

“Excellent event. Very informative and the wine was varied and very good to drink. The time flew by very quickly, so we must have been having a good time! Not all that sociable as the tables were small and separated, so people tended to socialise with their own table-mates. Might have been better if we were standing around a tasting table, or maybe if the tables faced each other in a circle.”

Cha Cha Cha Workshop 19/8/06

“Yes, Sheena always pitches her dance classes just right – a great balance of fun and tuition to suit every level of (in)competence. Though for me next time, I’ll stick to dances where I don’t have to partner-up so as to save other people’s feet and my shame”

“The event was brilliant, a really good laugh. The instructor was helpful, without being pushy.  The atmosphere was informal and comfortable.  I'd def recommend it to others.”

Spice Curry Club visits Shapla 28/7/06

“Finish off the evening by staging a sing-song involving anyone brave enough standing barefoot on the table with one foot in a bowl of curry, the other in a bowl of rice, wearing an elephant-head mask and singing “Tiptoe through the Tulips” in a Jimmy Somerville-type high-pitched voice, whilst attempting to drink a glassful of the chef’s finest chilli oil. Apart from that couldn’t be better”

“Really enjoyed this meal, ranks with the best.  Lots of choice.  My only criticism is that they served the starters to share rather than individual portions and there is nothing worse than having to cut food up to share!!  The service was excellent and the waiters all very friendly”

Dinner Shuffle at Wong Ting 20/7/06

“Enjoyed it - a good social event like the other dinner shuffles I've been on.”

Day Out in York 16/7/06

“It was great. The best Spice event in which I have been in. It was fantastic from the beginning to the end .Driving the red boat was good fun. I think we all enjoyed it.  Our guide for the Mystery Plays was very good: funny and knowledgeable. It was a pleasure to hear him talking in old English and his explanations about the origins of the plays most enjoyable.”

Theatre: Dirty Dusting 5/7/06

“This particular play was a bit saucy and close to the knuckle at times, but great fun if your sense of humour is on the naughty side!”

Skid Pan Session 2/7/06

“Very good. It was a right laugh, especially when you see your mates in the other car spin off the track out of control & you go sailing past them sliding sideways (in full control), while honking your horn profusely. Victory is usually short lived as you then get cocky & go a bit faster. Ultimately skidding off the track yourself at high speed heading towards the tyre wall, shouting Ohhhhhh   Shittttt..........Deffo falls into cheap 'n' cheerful category”

Crazy Golf Tournament 2 /7/06

I enjoyed the event a lot. It was fun, the people there had a good laugh and I would do it again.”

“I enjoyed Twelfth Night it is so much better going to the theatre etc with company rather than sitting there on your own.”

Dinner Shuffle at the Garrison 21/6/06

“The venue was good being in the old garrison building. Parking was easy and access for me from home was good. I thought the venue was generally highly suitable for this type of event although I thought the service could have been better.”

“Excellent event, very well organised”

“A good way to meet and talk to new people”

Dinner Shuffle at Simply Heathcotes 19/6/06

“A fab day”

Peter and Sarah are a lovely couple and put everyone at ease and were very encouraging.”

Windsurfing Introduction  10/6/06

“The level of instruction was just right for an introduction level- just enough so that you could grasp the basic concepts and controls, but not enough to bore you with all of the technicalities that you didn't need. It meant that after a short while we were all taken out onto the water a left to have a go!!!!!!! Even if I spent more time in the water than on the board, I definitely learned something and really enjoyed it and would like to learn to get better at!

Cheddar Gorge Walking Weekend 9/6/06

This was my first event with spice and i met some very nice members from spice, A good socialising event.

Hang Gliding 2/6/06

The location was excellent. What better way to spend a sunny afternoon in June than on a hill with some new friends enjoying an activity that many people never have the opportunity or bottle to do. We may have only been flying 10 feet or so off the floor, but what a buzz when you got that giant kite to lift you into the air like you were nothing!!!! I can just imagine what a thrill it must be a few thousand feet in the air!!!!”

Outdoor Adventure and Initiative Games 29/5/06

Better than I expected from write up – don’t think I thought it would be so physically and mentally challenging - an excellent day!”

Yorkshire Three Peaks Part 1 28/5/06

“Was a great event. Les is an excellent leader and kept us amused and entertained from start to finish.”

One of the best Indian meals I have been on with spice.”

“Was an excellent evening with a wide variety of food on offer. And plenty of it!”

“I thought the event was excellent. The food was good and plentiful and I particularly liked the fact that they cooked some of the dishes fresh. The atmosphere both within the restaurant and in the courtyard was great. As for the chocolate fountain - perhaps they should supply cups so we can get more!”

Last Laugh Comedy Club 12/5/06

“A good night out, the entrance fee might seem a bit pricey, but not for three acts and a disco afterwards. Drinks are cheap and food was reasonably priced and it’s a central location.”

“Fabulous fun day”

“overall very impressed by long eaton archery club in the way they organised the event. It was great fun in spite of the weather and my poor performance!”

“Everyone who helped out with this event was wonderful. They were very friendly and made me feel totally at ease throughout the whole day. The food and service was wonderful and considering we were in the middle of the forest we were looked after brilliantly.”

“Definitely my best Spice event to date, everyone was really welcoming and the whole event was really well organised.  It was good fun and the food was yummy”

Dinner Shuffle at Blue Fin 11/5/06

“A great restaurant with gorgeous food and good company. Ideal location with lots of pubs nearby for that after dinner tipple. The only downside - which I know Spice can't control - is that there is no waiting area in this restaurant to sit and have a drink beforehand, or a drink after the meal.”

“It's been a long time since I did a dinner shuffle.  Reminded me what good fun they are. A good evening. Food and company both excellent. Can we go back? Again!!”

“One of the best meals I have been on, and one which catered for vegetarians very well - so well I could hardly fit behind the steering wheel for the journey home!!”

Grand Day Out to Haworth 7/5/06

“Overall a very interesting day. It’s great to be a tourist close to home and provides a chance to try out those tourist activities without the hassle of organising it yourself.”

“Very good idea for an event, i.e. visiting tourist attractions in our own area, which we probably would not do otherwise.  Will be looking out for others.  Event very well coordinated too - cannot have been easy with the tight schedule, easy opportunity for losing people, and that fact that it was very busy due to it being 1940's day in Haworth.  We were the only people in post-war clothing there, well mostly!!”

Viaduct Abseil 6/5/06

“I always enjoy the dinner shuffles because it's nice to chat to different people as you move round - they're good social events.”

“A good social event at a good price point and well run.”

Excellent night – really enjoyed it.  Meal was great.  Started to get a bit hoarse with all the singing though!”

“I really enjoyed the Freddy Mercury evening.  I thought the meal was good - I certainly felt full when I had finished it. The service and timing of the courses was spot-on. Freddy came on bang on time and after the first couple of songs became the real thing ! I would certainly book similar events - especially venues like Aston Hall, Van Dyks etc that are out of Sheffield, because of the ease of access and parking.”

“It is the best social event we have done so far.  It certainly animated our positive feelings towards Spice.”

Intro to Caving 19/3/06

“There was a suggestion to wear either old walking boots or wellies. After doing the event, you definitely MUST HAVE a pair of wellies or you will end up trudging around with wet feet all day. The co-ordinator had some to hire (for an inconsequential fee) which I really appreciated. It meant that I could just jump in all the puddles and streams without wet feet putting a damper's on things (pardon the pun).

This was my second event (booked to do two over the same weekend) and with the slightly larger group (9 ppl) it got a better group rapport going. The location was well chosen as it help belay any fears of getting stuck in any tight holes as it was 'fairly' roomy. The co-ordinator (Bryan) made everyone welcome and safe, even when we all turned out our lights!!!!! Doing this after doing my first abseil makes me want to progress to the next level combining caving with abseiling inside them!! Bring it on!

Booking an event like 'intro' or 'for the terrified' is an excellent way of starting out into the dark world of caving. It helps to remove the fears that have been implanted by bad press regarding impossible tight squeezy holes where people get stuck and drown/get hypothermia etc etc, to actually drive me to wanting more.”

Rum Tickle Abseil 18/3/06

The event was well co-ordinated, so I don't feel that there would be anything else to contribute to improve this. It was already good!!

This was my first event, and my first abseil combined into one. I went along to the event on my own (couldn't wait for my mates to stop talking about doing it and not actually doing it!) and I was made welcome straight away.
Really enjoyed it. Threw myself into it because the instructors (Smudge and Co) were reassuring and friendly. I ended up doing the abseil '8' times!!!!!!!! Now just show me those caves.......

It did help that I had posted a few messages on the Spice Yorks forum to introduce myself, and the feedback I got helped ease my fears that no-one would ignore a newbie, in fact they actively encouraged me to jump in feet first, and that what I did.”

River Ouse Party Cruise 18/3/06

“Had a marvellous time - thank you.”

“A great event. Made a change from the usual stuff.”

Snickleways Tour of York 18/3/06

“I think I would have enjoyed it more if it wasn't such a cold day as there was a lot of standing around. The guide was excellent though and had lots of funny and interesting stories”

Showroom Sunday Lunch 12/3/06

“It was a pleasant way to spend a miserable wintry Sunday.  It could be extended by an option of going in to see one of the films afterwards  -  film to be selected and tickets paid for on the day.  I know people can do this anyway, but it'd be more fun as a group.”

St Patricks Nights 12/3/06

While ever it remains excellent value for money & I think they call Mr organiser (Dave) ? as long as he continues doing the exceptional job of

bringing in such fine artists you can count on me.(The beer -Wine is also very good). The write-up is ok no worries.

How can you improve an event that is exceptional --( I know a free bottle of white dry wine in a ice bucket for each table)”

“A brilliant evening.  From the drink on arrival, to the food and the music it was brill evening    Very good value for money”

“It was a great evening though not sure if I would book it again next yr having done it this year.”

info was fine and accurate, The Foyer is a great venue and look forward to many more there.”

“I really enjoyed the night - brilliant entertainment and atmosphere. The band were as good as last time and I would certainly book to see them again next year”

Ramble: Dragon of Wantley 6/3/06

“It was a lovely day the group were very friendly. It  helped that the group was relatively small (20) I feel that this is a good

number. Large groups can be difficult as people tag behind and groups split  up during the walk so it's not as easy to get to know each other.. The ability of this group was well matched this added to the pleasure of  the day. It helps also if the walks can be graded so that walkers can be  guaranteed a good pace. Less able walkers can go on a moderate walk which  would help them to be with walkers at their level”

The walk was well organised but not the most exciting countryside”

“An excellent walk, quite close to home, good leader and good company. Was helped by the fact that the sun shone all day and snow was on the ground!”

Wild Wessenden Hike 5/3/06

“John is an excellent walk leader, approachable, and wants people to enjoy the day, which I am sure they did. I enjoyed the fact that it was a good long walk and not too far away from home, although I am willing to travel up to 1.30 hours for a serious walk. I really enjoyed the day, helped of course by the weather and an excellent pint at the end. The numbers on the group were right ie not too many so it helps with the social occasion as people get to talk to most of the group. “

“Thoroughly enjoyed the walk I would give full house points on all counts. It is difficult to elaborate further as I guess I am a little unfit but I have not suffered. If anything it may have been better to have just walked 10/11 miles but I am certainly not complaining.”

100% Excellent feedback- was a perfect day, John led well- bit too far but good fun.”

“Excellent Day - Walk leader worked weather really well and stunning scenes more like Switzerland than Marsden”

Spring Dance Extravaganza 5/3/06

“Enjoyed every class, and all instructors were very helpful. Ceroc could have gone a bit slower, but having done an all-day workshop before, it seems to be the way they do things.

Because there were so many classes, you're not seeing the same faces all day. Also, the lunch was first rate - I don't know how much stuff would have been wasted because they over-catered. They even provided wine, which was an unexpected but pleasant surprise.”

“It was a really good social fun day, would really recommend it”

“Wide range in approach/standard/pace of different dance lessons. Not a problem for me - I thoroughly enjoyed everything except Lindy hop which was rather dull and strange but lots of people felt the ballroom was too slow or that ceroc was too fast”

“An excellent, but tiring day out!  The opportunity to gain an insight into different dance styles.  It would be good to see the same kind of event within the South Yorkshire area, as it gives you the opportunity to know when lessons take place.  Although it wasn't a difficult drive on Sunday morning!”

“Thank you for organising the dance event on Sunday - I really enjoyed it. Lunch was absolutely delicious!”

“Overall I thoroughly enjoyed this event, even though I was exhausted”

Tapas at The Ivory 2/3/06

“Really enjoyed it - a good initiation!! Good to talk to established members - all very positive. It was all and more than I was expecting - there were more people there than I thought there would be.”

Nice bunch of people”

Quad Bike Trail 6/11/05

This was my first event and I thoroughly enjoyed the experience. I would definitely recommend Quad biking. I spent most of the afternoon laughing

either at myself or other members. It's an excellent way to meet new people from different areas.”

Climb The Ice Wall 30/10/05

“Make it a bit longer so we have more time to climb.  We only got two routes in and it would have been nice to do some more.  It was still very good though and I really enjoyed it”

Clay Pigeon Shoot 29/10/05

“Thoroughly good day out, although very cold and windy, a flask of tea very essential!  Received a trophy for winning, so was very chuffed, although dont think the guys were too pleased! he he!  Would definitely go again!”

Spice Curry Club Visits Nirmals 28/10/05

The food was a little limited for the amount of money we paid, although there was enough food to go around the choice was limited there weren't any snacks (Onion Bhaji's, Samosas)

Any other comments:  It was a good opportunity to meet people and have conversations.”

Spice Curry Club Visits ButBut 25/10/05

“I really enjoyed my first event, and will be looking at the website

ASAP to book more.   Everyone was really friendly.  Thanks for a great evening overall”

“Any info we should have included in the writeup/joining pax: RECOMMEND THAT

PEOPLE ARE EXCEPTIONALLY HUNGRY!

How could we improve this event: GIVE ME A LARGER STOMACH!

Any other comments: ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT FOOD, GOOD CHOICE”

“A lovely evening met new people ++got some new fone numbers nice modern place near to me for travelling too even found some people

going to other events eg oasis w/end too felt very welcome by coordinator”

Hazel O’Connor at the Foyer 22/10/05

We thought it was a great night. Hazel O'Connor is probably a bit of an acquired taste, but she was a brilliant performer and the support act was excellent. Having the free meal was a great bonus and we paid less than the general admission. This is an amazing venue because you are so close to the performer and they usually come for a chat after the concert. It is also a cheap bar!”

“The Venue  would take come beating  and it is run very well the service is really good for food/drink.

We have all had to at some times in our lives had to hold our breath whilst in the toilets.Well at this venue they are (5 star) & I think I'm also

speaking for the Ladies. It always makes the evening much more enjoyable don't you think?”

Yes I would do this type of event again if you can maintain the value for money aspect. The Foyer is a good venue, easy to find, free parking, good bar and plenty of space.  This would make a good venue for friends in a flash and the spice chat room event.”

Would you do this type of event again :  Definitely

Any info we should have included in the writeup/joining pax:

Couldn't fault it though it finished later than expected meaning yours truly and ***** splitting on a taxi...to Handsworth then Dronny, at a

combined cost of £25.00!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Still worth it though.

How could we improve this event:

Couldn't really other than by having Shakira/Rachel Stevens/Natasha Bedingfield etc. given that you get to meet the singers afterwards and have

your photo taken with them! (Yum yum!)”

A really enjoyable evening and good of Hazel O'Connor herself to take time out with people afterwards for autographs, photos etc”

Rupert Mole Overnight Ghost Vigil 17/9/05

How could we improve this event: Without actually seeing a ghost walk right in front of you, you can not improve the event

Any other comments:With the price being high, the people who were there wanted to be there, so it made for a good crowd.

This was one of the best events I have been to for a while. I had so much fun, I still can not stop laughing about what happen.”

“Any info we should have included in the writeup/joining pax: Try and grab an hours sleep before this event.  Go with an open mind.

How could we improve this event: Run it more often!

Any other comments: Can be quite emotional.”

South Lakes Biking weekend 16/9/05

“It was an excellent weekend. Adrian and Paul always do a great job.”

Foxwood Farm Walking Weekend 16/9/05

“I would definitely do an event like this again and have booked for the Eskdale weekend.

I don't think there was anything that needed improvement to make it an excellent weekend and the company was great.

As usual, Roy and Linda did an excellent job.”

Wine Tasting 15/9/05

“Any info we should have included in the writeup/joining pax: Clearer directions & a strong hint to have a BIG TEA beforehand - there was a lot

 of alcohol to soak up!

How could we improve this event: Perhaps a slightly larger venue for that  size group, although it was a lovely shop.

Any other comments: Very enjoyable.”

“I would do this type of event again, I would love to do a real ales tasting event!”

“A very enjoyable evening - there was a good selection of different  wines to taste and we learnt a bit about them.  It was also a very

good social event, with plenty of time to chat to each other.  I'll be  keen to book on the next one!”

“A very enjoyable evening - not just because we tasted 12 different wines - it was very relaxed and sociable and the nibbles were

excellent. . 3 hours pass very quickly when you're having fun! “

New Members Pyramid Bowling 12/9/05

“How could we improve this event:  Needs no improvement, the evening was a very enjoyable way to spend a Monday night, and all the other Spice

members where very friendly”

Indoor Climbing 8/9/05

Fab - Eddie and his Spice helpers were really encouraging and coped well with wimpy girls like me who kept saying 'I can't!”

“the event was well organised and several more experienced spice members helped out, allowing us to spread out and do some more difficult climbs according to experienced.  if this had not happened it would have been more difficult to try anything more difficult due to the range of the group.”

Poker Evening 7/9/05

“Go on have a go - it's not your money!!!

How could we improve this event:   Give me better hands to play with!

Had a great time but lost all my chips before the competition!  Still enjoyed the evening though.”

New Members Meal at if Bar 6/9/05

“Maybe the offer or either wine or soft drink included a lot of spicers were driving that night. Good night was nice to have bar for after the meal so people didn’t all suddenly go”

BBQ by Canal 6/9/05

“It was a fantastic evening, brilliant food in a relaxed atmosphere with plenty of opportunity to meet new people, I thoroughly enjoyed it”

“An excellent event in perfect summer weather”

Haunted York Maize 2/9/05

It was brilliant, loved it, can't improve we really enjoyed it, when's it on next? “

“Good laff”

Abseiling for the Terrified 7/8/05

How could we improve this event: You can't improve on perfection!
Any other comments: Enjoyed the day immensely. It was pitched at just the right level but also flexible for different people's needs. The instructor really made the day. Everyone in the group was really friendly too. I was v. impressed & came back raving about it! Thankyou!”

“Very good fun, challenging but enjoyable and Eddie gave personal attention to ensure each person was happy and confident in what they were doing and

we could all go out our own pace.A real team spirit developed!

Write up needs to make clear it is an all day thing and that you  need to take lunch as we had no clue how long it was to last from write up.

May be useful to say there is quite a lot of hanging about between abseils whilst waiting for others so make sure you take plenty to drink/eat/keep

you amused and warm!”

excellent day even the weather was good. instruction was first class and made everyone feel at ease.”

It is a fantastic event - I had hoped I would come away minus a fear of  heights, actually that got worse, but the instructor and whole group were so

supportive, and I can now say that I at least faced my fear - I'll book on  again in the hope that next time, having a rough idea of what I am doing

will make the whole thing a bit less scary.

Have really enjoyed all my Spice events - its a really great idea for us mad  single folks with mates who darent break a nail!!”

Intro to NLP 7/8/05:

“Did very much enjoy the day. Felt it was pitched just right for an introduction day assuming people had little prior knowledge. Some people obviously knew more than a smattering. It was also fun, some of the activities generated a lot of discussion and laughter. It was good value for money. Venue was ok easy to find when you came of the M1Would possibly be interested in a follow up day or similar type event in the future.”

National Dragonboat Day 7/8/05:

“Great National event, and a good re-union for some of us who went on the recent Italy Active holiday.”

Wakefield Ale Trial 30/7/05:

“On this occasion I particularly  experienced feeling welcome my members of  the spice group. Mainly I believe this was due to the active role of the coordinators in  ensuring this was a positive experience for new comers and other

longstanding members.”

“Value for Money: 1 (At £7-50 including 2 pints of beer, there was clearly not much profit for Spice, however, there was a lot of networking going on  about booking weekends).

Pubs visited: 1 (An excellent selection, I would be happy to visit them all again).

Social Aspect: 1 (Had a good natter with lots of old friends).

 Coordination: 1 (2 coordinators)”

Kayaking Intro 24/7/05:

Yes I'd do it again as it was great fun and the instructor ,Andy ,was really friendly and took us thro' it step by step until we were comfortable. He let us do things at our own pace. It was also good being such a small group (5) as we got a team spirit and encouraged each other. Good exercise for the arms, shoulders and waist as I'm still aching 2 days after. I'm now tempted to do the level 1 course in Kayaking “

Afternoon Tea at Althorp 24/7/05:

How could we improve this event: NO, IT WAS VERY GOOD. BEST EVENT EVER!

Any other comments: FANTASTIC EVENT, ESP THE TEA

I really enjoyed the Tea at Althorp. The only downer was that the weather was awful, however, the tea experience made up for it all.

I'd definitely like to do something like this again. It was good to meet up with some from London Spice.”

The A-Z of Drinking 23/7/05

Overall the pub crawls are a good laugh, well organised and well worth the money”

National Waterfest 23/7/05:

I had a really fab time & will definitely do similar events again”

African Drumming 23/7/05:

“Would you do this type of event again : Y/N - YES, MOST DEFINITELY

Any info we should have included in the writeup/joining pax: In the next one put "best stress therapy/anger management event on Spice calendar"

How could we improve this event: Run them on a regular basis.

Any other comments: Yes, get the next one organised ASAP. On the downside, it was 24 hours before I could get the rings back on my fingers, talk about swollen paws!!”

“Everything in the course was excellent. I really enjoyed myself and would like to book more courses like this one.  I felt really relaxed

and sleepy after the course, I did not realise until later that drumming can have a therapeutic effect.  A Native American Indian drumming course would be

good too. A days drumming would be good so everyone can try out different drums.  I did not manage to try all the drums but it was certainly value for money and

good fun.  The tutor was friendly, encouraging and obviously wanted everyone to have fun and it didn’t matter if it took a while to tune into the beat.”

Easy Cycling weekend 22/7/05:

“The co-ordinators tried to include everyone and as usual all the spice members were friendly”

Having just done this for the 7th year running, what more can I say!”

Car Treasure Hunt 17/7/05

“Made a good event to go on as a new member as it was fun & informal. Everyone made me feel very welcome and included”

Kirkby Stephen Weekend 8/7/05:

“This was an excellent weekend away with a very good youth hostel in an especially good location.  All helped along by the fact that the weather was excellent and the group who attended were very friendly.”

“I thought this was an excellent weekend in a good location there was plenty to do nearby whether you wanted to walk or not and I enjoyed being able to explore different parts of North Yorkshire.  The town centre has everything you need with a late shop opposite and a couple of pubs doing reasonable food.  Thank you to Val for cooking the breakfasts and Sandra for co-ordinating an excellent weekend.”

“My first weekend with Spice. Was friendly, sociable     with good cheap accommodation and great walks. I look forward to going to another weekend event soon!”
